Midland Downtown Farmer's Market

I called my mom today at work to have her report some kids who's parents didn't enroll them in school, and she told me that Matt from the Midland Downtown Farmer's Market came in and told her that the crochet lady (she does scrubbers and potholders and such) was going to be attending quite a few craft fairs this fall, and therefore wouldn't have time to set up her booth at the local market. There's a pretty long list of people that badly want a booth there, and he offered her booth space to ME first! So of course, I'm going to accept the offer and set up on the weekends she won't be there. I'm so excited about this! From what my mom has said, the farmer's market gets packed on Saturdays, and the crochet-lady always sells out of her products, so I'm definitely hoping that my stuff flies off the table like hers did. I'm waiting on an email from Matt, and hopefully I'll have a decent amount of time to get some things made and ready before it's time for me to set up... Wish me luck!

My Fears Have Subsided...

Because I sold my first item today! WOOHOO! I totally feel better now, plus, Ms. Pam Johnson (owner of Blessed Indulgence) is taking my 30 java jackets to a businesswomen's conference in Killeen, TX this weekend, VERY exciting! So now it's time to get to work on something else, I've been working on java jackets for the past 2 weeks straight. I'm thinking more handwarmers, some baby items to display next to Swanky Baby (another business in the store by Kelly Climie, I LOVE the name too :D), and maybe some more jewelry. Wish me luck!

Displayin' my stash with pride!

My mom works up at a charter school in Midland, and they've been bustin tail rearranging classrooms. While going through one of the "storage" classrooms, she ran across this shelved rack thing, and thought of me! Yay! So, I reassembled it this afternoon and started putting my stash on it. This is about half of the yarn I own, the rest is in the living room where we've been working on stuff for the store. I thought I had so much yarn, yet in this rack, it looks so skimpy... guess I'll just have to go buy more LOL!

A couple days ago, Michael informed me that his granny wanted to learn to crochet. I love teaching people to crochet, but there's an extra incentive in it for me... his granny knows how to knit... so heck yeah I'll show her how to crochet, if she'll teach me the basics of knitting. I tried knitting once... bought a pack of needles on clearance at Hobby Lobby, sat down with an instructional video by Threadbanger... and well... I got the basic concept down, but my stitches are HORRIBLY loose... the weird thing is, I knitted wayyyy too loosely, and my mom is always riding my butt over crocheting too tightly LOL! Here's a picture of my attempt at knitting.
Purty scary, huh? Oh well, eventually I'll get better... hopefully... there are sooo many gorgeous knitting patterns I would love to try, but don't feel like translating to crochet... yeah, I'm lazy like that :P

Also, I'm thinking about doing a giveaway on here, but I'm just not sure what to use as a prize... the giveaway winner would be picked at random from the comments field of the giveaway post. Please let me know what ya'll would like to have a chance at winning. I can whip up a scarf, plushie, a pair of handwarmers, or cowl. Lemme know what ya'll think!

Is it Worth it?

Since I've put my items up for sale in Blessed Indulgence, I've been very contemplative as to whether it will work out. Not the actual store, I'm sure it will do amazing, there are many talented crafters there. I'm talking about my little ole booth.

Are my products up to the high-end standard the store observes? Is the return on the products enough to make it all worth it? Should I even bother?

The store has only been open for a week, so of course I don't expect it to be swamped with business, these things take time. And you would think that I would take the same concept to my products, yet, I'm so unsure of myself and my work right now.

When I first decided to take this leap of faith (albeit a small one), my mom and sister were right there, excited to help out embellishing and coming up with various brillant ideas. Now.... nothing... not even a nod to my completed projects. I don't know what happened...

Ordinarily, it wouldn't be a problem, but honestly, I'm making things outside of my comfort zone, and adding embellishments that I wouldn't come close to considering adding to my projects. I'm a simple gal, I like simple things in earthy colors. But, here I am, crocheting night and day, busting my ass, using yarn colors I don't particularly care for, creating things I would NEVER wear, and I feel like all the "me" is being sucked from the creations. It's all about flash and glittery and over-embellishment, and there's nothing I can do about it. The only way I can sell anything is by selling myself out, and making flashy, tacky, gaudy things.

I'll mull this over more tonight as I sit awake, I just needed somewhere to vent all of this frustration inside me.

Blessed Indulgence---Midland, TX

Blessed Indulgence is the store that I have my crochet booth set up in. It's located at 3303 N. Midkiff Rd. Suite 272 in the San Miguel square, inside the atrium, upstairs from Woofers & Tweeters in Midland, TX. (whew, that was a long location lol)

Some of the jewelry and accessories for sale.

Candles, purses, and more jewelry!

My skimpy little booth named Crochet Envy (they didn't like the Late Night Hooker name too much) :( I've been busting tail trying to get some more stuff made to take up there... So many hours crocheting, so little to show for it lol.

There are 3 more rooms in the back, but my camera battery was dying, so I wasn't able to get pictures of them. In the other rooms, there are Soaps 'N Suds Handmade candles and soaps, high end baby clothing, Bridges of Hope, SoyeScents, and many more products and companies. If you're in the area, please stop by and take a look around!

Quick Post

It's been a while since I've posted and I just wanted to let everyone I'm still here! I've rented a space in a gorgeous new botique to sell some of my new projects, so I've been bustin tail getting that set-up. Once I get everything set-up, I'll post up a picture and more info about the botique!
